House With One Light

Right outside of Yonkers over near Executive Blvd. there is this house that no one lives in. So now I bet your thinking ok who cares? Well in this house that no one lives in is candle that has remained lit for what seems like years. Whenever I drove by the house and looked up at the window that candle would be shining while everything else in the house was dark. The door was even blocked off. It is very clear looking at the house from the outside that it is abandoned. I cannot explain who lights the candle or why it’s lit or even how it seems to always remain lit. It has always been a mystery to me. It is just very strange and the house with the one light on has become quite the urban legend where I live. No one can explain it but we know one thing is for sure, when we drive by that house and look in the upstairs window a light will be shining.

Buckout Road

Want to know the creepiest road to drive on with some of the biggest houses? Visit Buckout Road in White Plains, NY. This is a road that has tons of spooky stories attached to it. The first time I went to the road it was a foggy night and my friends and I were bored so we thought “why not lets go to Buckout Road and have nightmares for the next month.” Well that night we couldn’t even drive down the street 100 feet because you could not see a thing due to the fog. The street had barely any lights on it! Creep factor #1. Another day when we ventured out it was daylight so the darkness was not a factor. The houses on the beginning of the street are huge mansions it’s almost like a facade because as you keep driving you begin to become surrounded by woods, Creep Factor #2. Oh and not to mention there are houses in those woods and a random tombstone that reads “John Buckout” on it. Creep factor 3 and 4. Keep traveling and you will reach the house that if you reportedly honk in front of a crazy guy will come out and chase you. I have never done this but I have seen a youtube video of it happening to a group of kids if you youtube buckout road there are a few videos on it. To this day this road creeps me out, but the thrill of it all keeps me wanting to go back!

My Aunt's House in Yonkers

This experience comes second hand. A location near and dear to my heart, my Aunt’s house. Years ago when my Grandfather got sick with cancer my Aunt took him into her home and converted her dinning room into a hospital room. There my Grandfather would lie in his hospital bed as hired nurses took care of him. Day in and day out my Aunt and Uncle would hear his hospital bed creaking from him moving in it. The sound began to drive them nuts. Soon my Grandfather got sicker and passed away. After he passed and while my family mourned, my Aunt’s dining room was converted back. Months passed and one night while my Aunt and Uncle were in bed they heard a familiar noise. They heard the creaking of my Grandfather’s hospital bed! I think he wanted them to know that even though he was gone his spirit would always be with them. My Grandfather was a spirit that was heard in my Aunt’s house but there was a spirit that my Mother actually saw while she was babysitting my cousins. While my Mother was lying down on the couch at my Aunt’s house she saw a shadowy figure wearing a black coat and a top hat near the door. My mother was a little freaked out but when she told my Aunt about what she saw there was no reaction. My aunt said “oh yeah, that’s Fred the ghost that lives here!” She told my Mother that the owner of the house that lived there before them died in the house and it was his spirit. After all is said and done, I wonder who else has had experiences or encounters with the paranormal?

Untermyer Park

The hair rises up on the back of your neck and suddenly your cold.  Your home alone yet you hear footsteps. The lights suddenly turn off and on. Then your dog starts barking at the wall. These could all be signs a spirit or ghost is present or it could mean: A) you should put a sweater on and get your heat checked. B) Maybe the footsteps are coming from the apartment above. C) You need a new light bulb. Or D) its time to take the dog for a walk. I agree that the mind can sometimes play tricks on us, but I also believe in spirits. I have even had the opportunity to visit a few reportedly haunted locations close to where I live in Yonkers, NY. One of those locations is Untermyer Park. Growing up there were so many stories about the park. Some said that cults would hang out there at night and make animal sacrifices. Others had said that the Son of Sam’s Devil cave was located in the park and that he use to spend his time there. One fall day my friend came up with the idea to visit the park, of course I was curious so I said sure. The park looks creepy from the outside, but as I walked into the park I was amazed at how beautiful it was. There was a gazebo, staircases, flowers, and stone paths. It looked like something out of a wedding book. Believe it or not people actually book the park for their wedding day to take photos. Now with all this beauty I felt there was something a bit off. There was a fence located in the park that blocked off what appeared to look like caves. This gave me an eerie feeling. There was also what appeared to look like markings on the walls of the caves. Unfortunately I was unable to walk to the caves because of the fence. So in conclusion haunted? Not so sure, but I wouldn’t go there at night! You could just sense that the park had a lot of history to it. The park’s silence seemed so loud.
